Confidence is how you perceive your abilities and strengths, it’s your state of mind. Whilst some people may be naturally confident it is more common for people to have occasions of self-doubt. Depression

Fertility

The NHS estimate that around 1 in 7 couples may have difficulty in conceiving.

It is known that high levels of stress can negatively affect many aspects of our lives. This is especially true when trying to conceive. Trying to conceive but not being able to can increase these stress levels further, which in turn can lessen the probability of falling pregnant. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy, anxiety or even depression sometimes pushing couples further apart rather than bringing them closer together. The desire for a baby can become all-consuming. This is especially likely if couples have been trying for unsuccessfully for a baby over a long period of time and if friends are falling pregnant with apparent ease. Stress can upset the balance of hormones necessary for conception and engages the sympathetic nervous system. When in this fight/ flight mode your body is much more focused on survival rather than reproduction.

Insomnia

Insomnia is a chronic lack of sleep.  It differs from sleep deprivation. This is where due to our current circumstances we have not prioritised sleep. Insomnia differs as we want to sleep and have given ourselves the right conditions to sleep but we just cant drift off.

Insomnia is created  as a result of high anxiety levels. When we are anxious we engage our sympathetic nervous system. This is our fight/ flight response. When in this mode we create an excess of stress hormones, increasing our temperature, breathing rate and heart rate. These conditions make it impossible to fall asleep.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can free you of your insomnia. By lowering your anxiety levels you will spend less time in your sympathetic nervous system. Instead you spend more time in your parasympathetic system which is referred to as your ‘rest and digest’ system. Weight Management

It would seem easy on paper to lose weight. All we need to do is simply consume less calories than we expend. This is the viewpoint that the diet industry has adopted for decades and as a result it has become the accepted norm. But how many times has this proved to be successful?

If we were simplistic cloned beings, then the above theory would have great merit but we’re not. There are many other factors that contribute to whether or not we can successfully lose and then keep weight off. Two major factors which have shown to contribute to increased weight gain are high stress levels and poor quality sleep. These cannot be addressed by diet and in fact trying to stick to a calorie controlled diet has been shown to increase stress levels.

When we have high stress levels we produce a range of stress hormones including cortisol. Our fight/flight system is engaged and we may have trouble relaxing and sleeping. Cortisol encourages fat storage especially around the stomach. This fat then in turn produces more cortisol which encourages more fat storage and so the problem becomes self-perpetuating.
