Being unsuccessful at losing weight can have a long term negative effect on both your physical and mental health and well being. It’s common for my clients to come and see me with little self-confidence, low self-esteem and a general feeling of despondency. Together we can use hypnotherapy for weight management to help you lose weight. It’s very probable that you’re had many unsuccessful attempts to achieve long term weight loss using dieting and you’re now looking for a better alternative. You may well have thought that dieting is the only way but you’re nervous about starting another one. You don’t want all the negative emotions that go hand in hand with another failed attempt. You’re probably worried about your future health if you can’t find another way. My goal is to always make you feel safe and secure and to support you while you make the changes necessary to ensure that your body and mind achieve the conditions necessary for successful weight loss.
There are many factors that contribute to whether or not you will be able to successfully lose and then keep weight off. The food that you eat is only a small part of the puzzle.
One of the more important things to consider is why you are eating it. It will be difficult for you to lose weight if you are unhappy, stressed or have an irregular sleep pattern.
Food can provide comfort, f you are unhappy then stopping eating foods which improve your mood is going to prove almost impossible. This is especially true as eating high fat and sugar foods releases feel-good hormones that reward us for our choice, encouraging us to eat more. If you are not feeling happy in your everyday life, then denying yourself something that you know elevates your mood is going to need an incredible amount of willpower. You have the ability to find other ways of producing your feel-good hormones. I can show you how to focus on the more positive aspects of your life, reframe your thoughts and help you to become a happier, more confident version of yourself.
If you are anxious over a period of time, your thinking comes from an emotional, negative, predictable part of your brain. This will always repeat the same behaviours. If you are stressed and say for example reach for chocolate, quite quickly your brain will recognise and then encourage this behaviour. It builds up patterns based on your behaviour. You may well then start to become frustrated at yourself that no matter how hard you try you can’t resist chocolate. Through repetition, you have programmed your brain to associate chocolate with stress relief. Thankfully it is a very simple process to free yourself from this emotional part of your brain where your cravings lie. Over a period of just a few weeks, you will be able to think from the rational, intellectual part of your brain which will give you a much greater chance of taking control over your eating.
Perhaps you can remember a time when you were happy and confident with your weight and more in control of your food intake. How does anxiety effect weight management?
If you are currently experiencing stress and anxiety in your life, then successfully losing weight is going to be an uphill struggle, even if you reduce your food intake. When you are stressed you produce an overload of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol encourages fat storage especially around the stomach. This fat then in turn produces more cortisol which encourages more fat storage and so the problem becomes self-perpetuating. Your body needs to achieve a homeostasis in order for you to successfully lose weight. By using hypnosis we can reduce your levels of damaging stress hormones and create the correct hormonal balance needed for you to successfully lose weight.
If you currently are having irregular sleep patterns, then you may find losing weight even more difficult. Adequate sleep is necessary for us to maintain both physical and mental health. If you are currently suffering from a lack of sleep, then your brain will respond by increasing your hunger in an attempt to re-energise itself.
Your body is always looking to find homeostasis. It really doesn’t respond well to you drastically reducing calories and changing your diet. It will see this as a threat to your life and respond by activating your stress response, increasing your hunger and holding onto your fat stores. Your brain will do all it can to get you back to your original weight, the weight that it feels you need to be. It is only when you have successfully addressed the areas in your life that are currently bringing stress that your body will achieve the correct conditions to lose weight.
