How does hypnotherapy differ from using other types of treatment?

Hypnotherapy differs from other forms of treatment as it primarily works with the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is very powerful and responsible for around 97% of our thoughts and behaviours. 

The subconscious mind is always working with a positive intention, but it often gets things wrong, so the outcome is often far from positive.

Its main aim is to keep you safe. This is why you can consciously tell yourself that ‘I’ll be fine, it’s only a presentation’ but when it comes to being ‘in the spotlight’ you get anxious. Your subconscious mind is in charge and if it believes that speaking in public is a threat, no amount of self-talk is going to have any beneficial effect.

 

Can everyone be hyptonised?

Yes, everyone has the ability be hypnotised if they wish to. No one can be hypnotised against their will. Hypnosis is not mind control, it’s just a form of deep relaxation. Some people may take longer to achieve this level of relaxation but everyone has the ability to be hypnotised.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No. Hypnosis is a state of focused attention. All hypnosis is, in fact, self hypnosis which means that you will remain in control at all times, should you wish to come out of hypnosis you can at any time.

 

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state that we go into each day. You will naturally experience hypnosis when you go into a daydream.

Perhaps you can remember a time when you’ve driven to work but have no recollection of how you got there. That’s because you were ‘in a trance state’ whilst driving.

Hypnotherapy enables the brain to achieve a slightly deeper level of trance so it can take in and act on suggestions for positive change.

 

 

Does hypnotherapy have any known side effects?

Hypnotherapy uses the state of hypnosis to enable people to make positive changes. Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state that we go into regularly each day. When a person is guided into a state of hypnosis by a hypnotherapist they will go into a deeper level of relaxation than they would do normally. As a result, it is not recommended for people who experience conditions such as psychosis.
