If you are suffering from erectile dysfunction, then it is important that you consult your GP so that any physical issues can be eliminated.
It’s very probable that you are reading this with a variety of emotions. You will probably feel frustrated, concerned, embarrassed and maybe fearful of the future. My goal is to always make you feel safe and secure and to support you while you make positive changes to your future to improve your chances of maintaining a sexual relationship.
What causes erectile dysfunction?
If you have received confirmation that your condition is not caused by a physical issue, then it is probable that it is related to a psychological one. One of the known contributing factors to erectile dysfunction is high stress and anxiety levels.
We can all feel anxious and nervous at specific times during our lives. Anxiety is what you feel when you are worried, tense, or afraid. If you are in stressful situations such as preparing for a job interview a certain amount of anxiety is expected and can actually be beneficial. However, anxiety can also be very harmful to health and is the main factor in a range of debilitating conditions. You may be currently feeling overwhelmed or anxious but these emotions do not need to become a permanent part of your life.

What creates anxiety?
Anxiety is created by our thoughts. If you feel that you have no control over a situation and you think negatively about it, you create anxiety. The more these thoughts enter your mind the more anxiety is created. In the case of erectile dysfunction, the more you think about the condition, and the more you worry about its effects, then the less chance there is of you either getting or maintaining an erection.
If you experience erectile dysfunction and if it caused embarrassment, then worrying about it can exacerbate the situation and increases the chances of it becoming a reoccurring problem. It’s natural then for your self-esteem and self-confidence to suffer and you may withdraw from trying to maintain a sexual relationship to stop these negative feelings.
Perhaps you can remember a time when you were free from anxiety but now you find yourself constantly under stress which is taking a physiological toll on your body. Working together we can use techniques to lower your levels of stress and anxiety, positively benefiting both your mental and physical health and wellbeing.
Our unhelpful stress response

Anxiety is a natural reaction to a stressful situation. If you feel under attack you will engage your stress response. We also know this as our fight/ flight mode. If activated your levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline will increase. As a result, your breathing rate and heart rate will increase to supply your muscles with energy-giving blood. Your stress response is only concerned with your survival. Blood is directed away from other parts of our body such as the sexual organs and digestive system. The immediate stress response constricts the blood vessels leading to our reproductive system, this lack of blood flow makes getting or maintaining an erection extremely difficult.
Financial, work and relationship pressures can all get treated as a threat to our survival. Your worries surrounding them engage your stress response and your body continues to produce an abundance of damaging stress hormones. These excess stress hormones may mean that you often feel jittery and that you find it difficult to switch off and relax.
Anxiety can build up over time. It doesn’t have to be one major event to create a stress response. It can be a series of little things. Little worries that never seem to go away and then get bigger as time passes. You may well find that you can easily relate to this and at this time in your life you feel on edge with your thoughts racing. Together we can help you to reframe your thoughts helping you to achieve a sense of calmness.
How hypnotherapy for erectile dysfunction can help
During our therapy sessions, you’ll learn how to replace worrying thoughts with positive ones. This helps to develop specific parts of your brain which encourage positive thinking as opposed to negative introspection. We don’t produce anxiety when we feel positive and in control. So by focusing more attention on these parts of your life we can help naturally lower your anxiety levels.
When we think positively we create serotonin. Amongst other beneficial effects, serotonin is known to help increase levels of confidence and self-esteem. This can have a beneficial effect on your mental health leading to a reduction in anxiety and an increased sense of wellbeing.
Lowering your anxiety levels helps you to lower your levels of cortisol and other stress hormones in your body. As a result, you help to disengage your flight/ fight response allowing blood flow to reach all parts of your body making achieving and maintaining an erection a reality.
I believe that have everything that you need within you to gain freedom from your anxiety and maintain a sexual relationship. You will be provided with all the knowledge and resources necessary to ensure you can enjoy lifelong change. I will support you up until the point that you decide that you no longer need my help.
